Every 3D printer has a maximum build volume, and many customer projects are larger than that. Cosplay props, architectural models, large wall decorations, signage letters and tall sculptures often exceed what can be printed in one piece. This is not a dead end. Drukuje3D prints oversized models by dividing them into segments that are printed separately and then assembled into one object.
A single piece printed by Drukuje3D can measure up to about 25 by 25 centimetres. Anything larger is split intelligently so that the finished object is strong, accurate and as invisible at the joints as possible.
Projects that often need segmenting
- cosplay props, helmets and armour pieces,
- large letters and logos for signage,
- architectural and terrain models,
- tall vases, sculptures and busts,
- wall panels and decorative reliefs,
- display stands and exhibition elements.
How models are divided
The goal of segmentation is to hide joints along natural lines of the model: edges, grooves and changes in shape. Cutting a model in a flat, visible area would make the seam obvious. Drukuje3D plans the cuts so that each segment can also be printed in a good orientation, which improves surface quality and strength.
Joining segments
Segments can be designed with alignment features such as pins, dowels or interlocking keys. These ensure the parts line up correctly during gluing. Depending on the material and the use, segments can be glued, bolted or connected with mechanical joints. A well-designed connection is strong and nearly invisible after finishing.
Finishing after assembly
For decorative and display pieces, joints can be filled, sanded and painted to create a seamless surface. ABS is particularly convenient for this kind of work, as it sands well and accepts paint easily. PLA is also commonly used and can be primed and painted. Strength considerations
For functional large parts, the location of joints matters. Seams should not be placed where the highest loads occur. Drukuje3D considers how the object will be used and positions the cuts accordingly. For heavy-duty structural uses, printed segmented parts may not be suitable, and the workshop will say so honestly.
Cost and time
Large models use more material and take longer to print, so it is worth providing exact dimensions and the required level of detail. A thicker layer height can significantly reduce printing time for large surfaces that will be finished anyway, while finer layers are reserved for visible details.
How to order
Send the model and the target size, and indicate whether you need the parts assembled or delivered separately for your own finishing. Drukuje3D will propose a segmentation plan and a quote.
Summary
Size limits of a printer do not limit your project. With careful segmentation, alignment features and good finishing, Drukuje3D can produce large models that look and work like a single object.
